Retirement

Mike Buckles, Executive Director

Mike has dedicated over twenty-four years of service to Daniel Boone Community Action Agency, Inc.  He served as Executive Director from December 15, 1997 to March 31, 2022.

In 1997, when Mike was hired as Executive Director the agency was having financial hardships.  We needed someone with great leadership skills and Mike filled that role.  He worked continuously to secure the future of the agency.  Under his management, he oversaw 135 employees, two (2) Kentucky Career Centers and a budget of over 16 million dollars.  The agency also received funding for  three (3) office facilities located in the following counties; Clay, Jackson, and Lee.

Mike served as the Community Action Kentucky President for two terms 2013- 2017.  He was elected into the Transportation Hall of Fame in 2015.  In 2019 he received the “Jesse Amburgey Award of Excellence in Community Action”.   Under his leadership, Daniel Boone CAA earned a list of awards, including the, Statewide Transportation Award, Eastern Kentucky Section 5311 Award, Vehicle Maintenance Award, Statewide Transportation Award, Weatherization Leadership Award and many more.  Mike served on the Kentucky Public Transit Association Board, Kentucky Mountain Housing Board, and Lake Cumberland Workforce Board, and others throughout his career.

He loved Community Action and their mission to do everything possible to alleviate poverty and make life better for the citizens of our communities.
